Master Drummer John Marshall to Lead Drumming Worshop on July 18

Wisdom House Retreat and Conference Center presents "Summer Drumming Workshop" with John Marshall on Saturday, July 18th from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm.

This workshop will feature rhythm, pulse, and improvisational exercises towards developing confidence and dexterity. Traditional rhythms from around the world will be explored in a joyful, safe and non-competitive atmosphere. Participants are asked to bring a drum, if they have one. A limited number will be available.

Master percussionist, John Marshall performs on concert stages, in radio, television and on film. His performances include drumming traditions of the Middle East, North and South India, West Africa, Central Asia and the Caribbean. He performs with the classical/jazz/world ensemble, Ufonia. Susan Iadone, Recorder Workshop Faculty, to Give Benefit Concert at Wisdom House June 18

Susan Iadone and the Recorder Workshop faculty will give a benefit performance Medieval Recorder music in honor of the 60th anniversary of Wisdom House Retreat and Conference Center on Thursday, June 18th from 7:30 to 8:30 pm.

Ms. Iadone performs and coaches on recorder, viola, and viola da gamba at St. David’s School in New York City. She has toured, performed, accompanied and recorded extensively in Europe and in the U.S.

Sunrise Labyrinth Walk at Wisdom House on June 7

Wisdom House Retreat and Conference Center will sponsor a sunrise labyrinth walk on Sunday June 7th beginning at 5:15 am.

Participants will greet the morning sun and walk the seven-circuit labyrinth to celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Wisdom. There will be coffee and cake for participants following the walk. Rosemarie Greco, DW, Administrator of Wisdom House, will lead the program. Sr. Rosemarie holds an MA in Theology from Manhattan College and a Licentiate from the University of Dayton and Pontifical University.

Pauline Sasaki to Lecture on 'A New Paradigm for Health: Energy and Human Touch'

Pauline Sasaki will give a lecture entitled, "A New Paradigm for Health: Energy and Human Touch" at Wisdom House Retreat and Conference Center on Saturday, June 27th from 1 to 2 pm.

The lecture will explore how major changes in the earth’s vibrations are imbuing the human form with a new presence capable of amazing abilities to heal.

Ms. Sasaki has been an alternative health practitioner for thirty years. She is a Shiatsu therapist and both student and instructor at the Shiatsu Education Center of America.

Wisdom House to Host Program, 'Bats and the Environment'

A program, "Bats and the Environment," will be presented at Wisdom House Retreat and Conference Center from 10:30 am to noon on Friday, May 1st. Gerri Griswold, Director of Administration and Development at The White Memorial Conservation Center in Litchfield, CT, will be the presenter.

Bats are some of the most misunderstood animals. Their place in our ecology is vital yet some deadly diseases threaten their existence. What do they do during the day? Why do they come out at night? We often fear what we don’t understand. Bats: to know them is to love them! This program is appropriate for adults and children.

Ms. Griswold is a licensed wildlife rehabilitator (with special emphasis on bats) for the State of Connecticut. She is the author of numerous articles including a cover story in The Weekly Reader. She has also co-produced a segment for The Late Show with David Letterman and a segment on Positively Connecticut with Diane Smith.

Rabbi Rami Shapiro to Lead Weekend Retreat on 'Wisdom: the Divine Feminine'

A weekend retreat, "Wisdom: The Divine Feminine, " will take place at Wisdom House Retreat and Conference Center from Friday, May 29th at 7 pm to Sunday May 31st at 1 pm.

The first of God’s creation and God’s endless delight is Wisdom, the Mother of all life. References to the Divine Feminine can be found in the Wisdom Literature of the Hebrew Scriptures. This retreat will help participants know Wisdom as a guide to right-living, how to live in harmony with all creation, how to love with integrity and act joyously.

The presenter will be Rabbi Rami Shapiro, award-winning author, poet, essayist, and educator. He holds doctoral degrees in both Jewish studies and divinity. A congregational rabbi for 20 years, Rabbi Shapiro currently teaches Religious Studies at Middle Tennessee State University and directs One River, a not-for-profit educational foundation devoted to building community through contemplative conversation. His most recent books are The Sacred Art of Lovingkindness, The Divine Feminine, and Ethics of the Sages.

Quiet Days at Wisdom House from May 4 through May 9

Wisdom House Retreat and Conference Center will observe "Quiet Days" from Monday May 4th at 5 pm through Saturday May 9th at 1 pm.

Spend quiet days in prayer, reflection and renewal. Walk Wisdom House’s seven-circuit labyrinth or relax by the pool. Spiritual direction is available.
